Definition and Usage

The shift() method removes the first element of an array, and returns that element.

Note: This method changes the length of an array!

Syntax

array.shift()

The shift() method is supported in all major browsers.


Tips and Notes

Tip: To remove the last element of an array, use the pop() method.

Example

Remove the first element of an array (this will also change the length of the array):

The output of the code above will be:

Banana

Apple,Mango
