JavaScript slice() Method
JavaScript Array Object
Definition and Usage
The slice() method selects a part of an array, and returns the new array.
Note: The original array will not be changed.
Syntax
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| start | Required. An integer that specifies where to start the selection (The first element has an index of 0). You can also use negative numbers to select from the end of an array |
| end | Optional. An integer that specifies where to end the selection. If omitted, slice() selects all elements from the start position and to the end of the array |
Browser Support
The slice() method is supported in all major browsers.
Example
Example
Select elements from an array, and return the new arrays:
var fruits = ["Banana", "Orange", "Apple", "Mango"];
document.write(fruits.slice(0,1) + "<br />");
document.write(fruits.slice(1) + "<br />");
document.write(fruits.slice(-2) + "<br />");
document.write(fruits);
</script>
The output of the code above will be:
Orange,Apple,Mango
Apple,Mango
Banana,Orange,Apple,Mango
