Web Services is about application to application communication.

WSDL is an XML based language for describing Web Services.

WSDL

WSDL (Web Services Description Language) is an XML format for describing Web Services.

To learn more about WSDL, read our WSDL tutorial.

WSDL 1.1

WSDL 1.1 was suggested in a note to W3C in March 2001 (by Ariba, IBM and Microsoft) as an XML format for describing Web Services.

The note also described how to use WSDL in conjunction with SOAP 1.1, HTTP GET/POST, and MIME.

The W3C WSDL 1.1 document is only a NOTE available for discussion. The publication of the note indicates no endorsement by the W3C.

WSDL 1.2

The first working drafts were published 17. December 2001.

The latest working drafts were published 11. June 2003.

WSDL 2.0

The XML Protocol Working Group at W3C is currently working on WSDL 2.0.

Web Architecture

Simple Internet technologies are used to access the information space of the World Wide Web. These technologies are used to access information across languages, cultures, and media.

To preserve the properties of the World Wide Web as technologies evolve, W3C has created a recommendation for the core design components of the Web.

Architecture of the World Wide Web, Volume One is a W3C recommendation describing the standard protocols that support the identification of, and interaction between Web resources.
