HTML DOM defaultSelected Property
Complete Option Object Reference
Definition and Usage
The defaultSelected property returns the default value of the selected
attribute.
This property returns true if an option is selected by default, otherwise it
returns false.
Note: If an option is default selected , it will be displayed first in
the list.
Syntax
optionObject.defaultSelected

The following example alerts if the chosen fruit is selected by default:
