Definition and Usage

The max-height property sets the maximum height of an element.

Note: The max-height property does not include padding, borders, or margins!

Default value: none
Inherited: no
Version: CSS2
JavaScript syntax: object.style.maxHeight="10px"

The max-height property is supported in all major browsers.

Note: The value "inherit" is supported in IE8 if a !DOCTYPE is specified. IE9 supports "inherit".

Note: IE6 and earlier versions does not support the max-height property.

length Defines the maximum height in px, cm, etc.  Play it »
% Defines the maximum height in percent of the containing block
inherit Specifies that the value of the max-height property should be inherited from the parent element
