Definition and Usage

The value property sets or returns the value of the value attribute of a date field.

The value attribute specifies a date for the date field.

The value property is supported in all major browsers.

Note: The <input type="date"> element is not supported in Internet Explorer or Firefox.


Syntax

Return the value property:

inputdateObject.value

Set the value property:

inputdateObject.value=YYYY-MM-DD

Property Values

Value Description
YYYY-MM-DD Specifies a date for the date field.

Explanation of components:
  • YYYY - year (e.g. 2011)
  • MM - month (e.g. 01 for January)
  • DD - day of the month (e.g. 08)
An example: "2014-02-09" means February 9th, 2014 (09/02/2014).

Technical Details

Return Value: A String, representing the date of the date field
